What Valuable Volunteer Insights Can Your Club Contribute to the Qld Govt Enquiry?
-
Volunteers are the lifeblood of our croquet clubs, and their dedication is essential to the success of initiatives like ‘Croquet & High Tea’.
However, we know that many clubs are facing increasing challenges in recruiting and retaining these invaluable individuals. This is why your direct input is critical at this moment.
The preparations for ‘Croquet & High Tea’, while promising for membership growth, also serve to highlight the current volunteer landscape in our clubs. As you organise your local events, you are likely experiencing firsthand the pressures and difficulties related to volunteer support. It's these real-world experiences we need to capture.
Right now, the Queensland Government is actively seeking submissions for its enquiry into volunteerism. This is a crucial moment for Croquet Queensland to ensure our voices are heard and understood at a governmental level. Your stories about volunteer challenges in the context of ‘Croquet & High Tea’ and also in general are not just valuable for CAQ – they are vital for this state-level enquiry.
Therefore, we are asking you to share your stories and experiences related to volunteerism as you prepare for ‘Croquet & High Tea’.
We need to understand:
- What are the main challenges you are facing in getting volunteers for this event? (and in general)
- What kind of support would make the biggest difference? (for this event and ongoing)
Your accounts will directly shape CAQ’s immediate assistance and provide essential evidence for the Queensland Government's enquiry.
We encourage you to contribute to this important conversation directly within this Club Hub thread. Please share your volunteerism stories.
Your participation in this Club Hub discussion is more than just sharing information – it’s an opportunity to directly influence the support you receive from CAQ and to contribute to a broader conversation that affects the future of volunteerism in Queensland sports. The government enquiry is happening now, making your timely input crucial. Please share your volunteerism stories today.
CAQ is committed to supporting our clubs, especially in overcoming volunteerism challenges. By openly sharing your experiences here, you are empowering CAQ to advocate more effectively on your behalf and to develop support strategies that increase your volunteer enjoyment. We are listening intently and ready to work with you – your stories will guide our actions.
Thank you for your vital contributions.

Croquet and High Tea is a fantastic idea. We did a "ladies" High Tea at Merthyr for members a year or so ago, it was a great day and we all enjoyed ourselves. As we work with our volunteer members at Windsor, for this high tea where the public will be invited, we'll keep a note of our "challenges" and share (as requested). Thank you for your great work! At Windsor Croquet Club, we are excited to be involved.

Thank you so much!
It's wonderful to know that Merthyr's "ladies" High Tea was such a success – that's exactly the kind of positive experience we hope to replicate and share across Queensland with this high tea!
Your club's willingness to note and share any "challenges" you encounter as you plan for the public event is incredibly valuable. These real-world insights will be helpful for other clubs and for CAQ as we move forward with this and future initiatives.
We would be most grateful if you could share these observations, and any other thoughts or feedback you have, here. Club Hub in general is designed as a central place for clubs to collaborate and learn from each other, and your contributions would be greatly appreciated by the entire community.
Thank you once again for Windsor's participation and your proactive approach : )

At Eildon we are very conscious of the fact that the club lives or dies on the efforts of our volunteers. We are very fortunate in having a strong culture that supports volunteers, although a big issue is that it really is only a fraction of our membership base who are able or willing to put themselves forward regularly. Like many croquet clubs, we also have an issue with the age of our membership, and the need to have realistic expectations of what they should be asked to do. Whenever possible, we work to upgrade our facilities and processes to make life easier for our volunteers. Things such as applying for grant funds to purchase self-propelling mowers, to cover insurance costs so that club funds can be diverted to other needs.
