HOOPLA news site audit adds a public newsletter signup and a clearer CAQ link

A newsletter signup panel, fixed CAQ links, and a fix for a hidden loading slowdown.

The HOOPLA news site now loads faster following a fix to image pre-loading. Updated navigation links and a new newsletter signup panel in the footer and articles are also live.

What the problem was

The HOOPLA news site had drifted away from the main CAQ site. Links back to croquetqld.org pages had stopped pointing anywhere useful.

There was also no easy way to sign up for the HOOPLA newsletter directly from the site.

Additionally, pages were loading dozens of images before they were needed. This technical quirk slowed things down for no reason.

What was built

A newsletter signup panel was added to the footer and the end of every article. This is wired straight into the mailing list CAQ uses.

The CAQ links in the footer and masthead were checked one by one. They were fixed where they had broken.

The image pre-loading issue was also resolved. This cut the number of images loaded upfront from around 40 to 1.

What it means for you

You will find the site loads much faster now. This is because the technical image quirk has been removed.

Your members can now join the newsletter mailing list easily. They can do this from any article or the footer.

You can also rely on the navigation links. The masthead and footer now point correctly back to the live CAQ site.

Where it stands

These changes have been live since 6 July 2026.

The updates were checked against the live site after shipping. They have remained unchanged since that date.
