Three new flags give members a say over how their data is used
Unsubscribing from the newsletter no longer risks missing an AGM notice or a renewal reminder.
You can now unsubscribe from the HOOPLA newsletter without losing your access to essential club notices and renewal reminders.
What the problem was
The database could not distinguish between members who unsubscribed from the newsletter and those who had left the club or bounced.
Necessary fields to record this difference did not exist.
Every check returned nothing and let all users through the same way.
What was built
Three new fields were added for bounced emails, newsletter opt outs, and club communications opt outs.
CAQ recovered missing history from the email system, identifying 76 bounced addresses and 20 genuine newsletter opt outs.
Every automated email send now checks the correct flag for the specific message type.
What it means for you
You can opt out of HOOPLA while remaining a member.
You will continue to receive AGM notices and renewal reminders instead of being cut off from all communications.
Where it stands
This update went live in July 2026.
The system was checked against a full independent review before shipping.
