Wetting Agents
What a wetting agent actually does, when to apply it, and who in Queensland actually sells the professional products.
What it is
Sandy soil, especially on the coast, can go water-repellent (hydrophobic) after a long dry spell. Once that happens, water runs off the surface instead of soaking in, even during heavy rain or irrigation. A wetting agent is a surfactant that breaks that repellency down so water can move into the root zone again.
When to use it
Apply it preventively at the start of the dry season, before the soil has a chance to go hydrophobic, rather than after dry patches already show. If a court has a chronic problem with dry patches on sandy ground, reapply every six to eight weeks through the dry season.
Who actually sells it
