    The Management Committee is the elected group responsible for steering the ship – guiding the club's direction and making key decisions on behalf of all members. Think of the committee as the 'mind' of the club, setting the strategy, while other wonderful volunteers are the 'hands' helping with day-to-day tasks.

    While specific structures vary, most committees have core roles with distinct responsibilities. Here's a look at the common ones:

    Key Committee Roles:

    • President:

      • The leader and main spokesperson/ambassador for the club.
      • Chairs committee meetings and often General Meetings.
      • Acts as a key link between the committee and club stakeholders.

    • Secretary:

      • Manages the club's official business and communication.
      • Prepares agendas and takes minutes for meetings.
      • Handles correspondence and ensures the club meets its reporting and compliance obligations (e.g., with the Office of Fair Trading).
      • (Note: Sometimes this is a non-committee administrative role, but often it's an elected committee position).

    • Treasurer:

      • Oversees the club's finances.
      • Prepares budgets and financial reports for the committee.
      • Manages bank accounts and ensures proper financial procedures are followed.

    • Vice President (Optional):

      • Often supports and understudies the President.

    General Duties for ALL Committee Members:

    Under the Associations Incorporation Act 1981, all committee members have important duties, including:

    • Acting with care and diligence.
    • Acting in good faith and for a proper purpose (in the best interests of the club).
    • Not improperly using their position or information gained from it.
    • Disclosing and managing any conflicts of interest.
    • Ensuring the club doesn't trade while insolvent (unable to pay its debts).
